REMOTE NOTARIAL DEED: Since April 1st, notaries are allowed to sign a notarized document remotely. This is not compulsory and notaries are free to use this additional tool or not. Consult the steps and application procedures.
CHAMBRE DES NOTAIRES OFFICES: The Chamber's offices are open, but due to the circumstances related to the coronavirus some services are offered remotely. Additional delays apply for requests for searches in Registers of Testamentary Dispositions and Mandates, as well as for requests for a Certificate of Quality and Authenticity.

Profesionnal Inspection

The Chambre des notaires du Québec professional inspection service has the mandate to oversee the exercise of the profession and ensure the members maintain their competency.

To achieve this, qualified inspectors regularly visit notaries to inspect their files, deeds, registers and in trust accounting. They help notaries improve their professional practise by providing advice that reflects the standards of professional practise.

The practise oversight program administered by the professional inspection service enforces the rules of best practise and emphasizes certain aspects of the profession, such as:

  • management of funds entrusted to notaries
  • formalities and quality of drawing up notarized deeds
  • publication of notarized deeds
  • privacy and security of information

Furthermore, through its professional coaching inspection program, the professional inspection service meets with every new notary within a year of their registration on the roll, to guide them in the beginning of their professional practise.
